What We’re Reading Wednesday

Wednesday! Glorious comic book day! Check out our post to see what we’re looking forward to reading this week, and let us know what you’re picking up as well.

Our pick of the week:

Cyclops #6

• Get ready as new series artist Javier Garron makes his Marvel debut!

• RESCUED! But by who? And is it really a rescue…or does this put Scott at greater risk than before? And what bounty are they hunting?

• Lots of shooting and things blowing up!

• Catwoman #35: I quit New 52 Catwoman pretty early into its run. New 52 happened almost immediately after I finished reading Hush for the first time, and I was expecting that badass version of Catwoman in current continuity. I found myself pretty disappointed at the choices that early creative team made. But Selina Kyle as Gotham kingpin is a good enough hook that I’m willing to give it a second shot.
• Death of Wolverine: The Logan Legacy #2: It’s no secret that I’m a big X-23 fan, and I’ve been really curious about how Logan’s death is going to affect her, so I’m all in for this issue.
• The Wicked + The Divine #5: I’ve read a lot of people complaining about this title. That it’s slow, that the writing is bad, that nothing happens. I respectfully disagree, and after the end of last issue, I’m ready to watch all hell break loose in this book. Bring it.
• Cyclops #6: It’s the last Rucka Cyclops book. I’m really going to miss him writing this title, though I’m definitely sticking with it at least through #7 to see what John Layman does. Young Scott is one of my favorite things to come out of the time-displaced teenage X-Men.

• The Wicked + The Divine #5: Surprise, surprise to find this here, am I right? Except not even a little bit. I can see the complaints people have with this series and I also get the love. It’s still an itch I want to regularly scratch, but I’m starting to wonder if I’m better off forgetting this title exists for a couple months and then binge reading it…
• Avengers and X-Men Axis #3: I can’t even explain this one. I think I’m reading it out of sheer stubbornness because I’m not certain I get the point of ANOTHER crossover. Come back to me next week. I’ll probably have regained my senses by then.
• Cyclops #6: Reaching a writer change-over on an ongoing series you enjoy is always kind of terrifying. I’ve loved Rucka’s run, but I’m sticking with it. Space adventures with sassy time displaced teens are kind of my (star)jam(er).
• She-Hulk #9: Cancellation announcements make me so sad! If there was ever a reason to get on board before it bites the dust, then check this out! I like it? Which might be damning it…

• Afterlife With Archie Magazine #1: So between digital and the trade paperback of the first arc, this will be the third time I buy this comic, which is pretty ridiculous.  But there’s been a magazine-sized hole in my heart ever since Life With Archie ended, and it must needs be filled by any means necessary. Even reprints.
  
• Judge Dredd: Anderson, Psi-Division #3: So far, this series hasn’t really found a unique voice and is kinda reductive in that way that generic origin stories of badass women tend to be, playing up their vulnerability too much, but I’m digging it enough to see it through to the end.
• Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles/Ghostbusters #1: It’s not the Ghostbusters Volume 3 that I, nay, THE WORLD deserves, but with the ongoing title’s creative team returning, it’ll do for now.
• Half of Image’s output: With Lazarus #12, Revival #24, Stray Bullets: Killers #8, The Walking Dead #133, and The Wicked + The Divine #5 all coming out this week?  Hey, it’s cool, Image, I don’t need to eat that badly.  Geez.
• All-New X-Factor #15: This title’s cancellation had better not mean the end of Peter David writing fringe X-titles.  It’s pretty much all that sustains me as an X-Men fan these days.
• Amazing X-Men #12: I’m just here to the end of this Alpha Flight arc.  Over it.
• Cyclops #6: Odds that I’ll ever care about a Cyclops-centric comic again after this week?  Not great.  Prove me wrong, Layman!  Prove me wrong.

• Avengers #37: At any given point it’s impossible to say which part of Hickman’s giant plot will be featured in any part of Avengers, given that the solicits are just “time runs out.” But I like it all, so I’m here for it.
• Cyclops #6: I think this is where the new writer starts? I’ve seen interviews to that effect. SOUNDS LIKE. So time to see how this gonna be. Please still be great! The novelty of enjoying this is too fun to go away.
• Death of Wolverine: The Logan Legacy #2: #1 was just straight up a series of “but find out more in the future issues” throws which was honestly not a great approach for me, so I’m just in this one for the Laura Kinney factor.
• The Wicked + The Divine #5: Hell broke loose! Haha get it because last issue… you get it. The conclusion of the first arc which I’ve only been digging more and more with each issue.

It’s an extremely light week for me, simply because I have a mountain of books to catch up on.

• Avengers #37: I’m about a month behind on my comics and can’t remember if I’ve read #36 yet, but Hickman remains my jam.
• Cyclops #6: Rucka’s last Cyclops outing, and while he leaves big shoes to fill for the next creative team, I hope they keep the overall tone of this book.
• She-Hulk #9: SADLY CANCELLED AFTER ISSUE TWELVE. Man, that sucks. This and Ms. Marvel are easily my favourite of the female solo ongoings, so I’m extremely disappointed by this new. Last issue featured Matt Rocks, Daredevil, and old Steve Rogers, so this book can do no wrong in my eyes. If you’ve been meaning to catch up on this series, the first trade is also out this week. Buy it and show Shulkie some support!
